In the final days of the Clinton administration, the Forest Service adopted the Roadless Area Conservation Rule prohibiting road construction and timber harvesting in all inventoried roadless areas. Now, the Bush administration has given advisory power to state governors–allowing input regarding management of roadless areas for state needs.

A White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation will be held August 29-31 in St. Louis. Over 1,100 invited participants are expected to attend in an effort to identify ideas for conservation policies and initiatives and to exchange information on successful partnerships.
